About Mike

Mike Abasov
Mike Abasov is a 22-year-old international student at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He came to North America in 2009 from Ukraine, where he had got his first bachelor degree in economics (minoring in international relationships).

After discovering a great passion for marketing at the age of 18, he used every resource available to learn about it and practice his skills. Having a background in web-development, he started freelancing as a project manager and consultant for online branding and identity design projects.

He successfully managed a team that rebranded one of the largest recycling companies in Ukraine, “EFES.” Mike also promoted many non-profit student organizations at his university, and took part in a couple of small side projects.

As a student, Mike has been a VP Marketing of Sigma Tau Delta fraternity (Ukraine), VP Communications of his faculty’s Student Council (Ukraine), VP Communications of AIESEC KPU, and brand manager of AIESEC UBC, Canada, and President of the UBC eBusiness Club.

In 2010, Mike worked as a social media manager for uCoz Web Services, achieving substantial growth for the company’s online community. In 2011, he worked as a marketing ambassador at HootSuite Media, Inc. He is currently contracting for a social media agency in Vancouver.

Mike has blogged and tweeted in Russian for over 2 years and become well-known in a few web- and marketing-related communities. He has had many attempts to start blogging in English before, but so far this is the most promising one.

“Mike has a natural ability in, and genuine passion for, Internet marketing and I expect he will be a tremendous success in this field.”

— Andrea Niosi, Marketing Instructor

“I think every student who wants to be productive with their life should subscribe to [Mike’s] material.”

— Iris Wong, student
